Hushållen, det vill säga alla invånare, har skyldighet att sortera ut returpapper, förpackningar, elavfall, batterier och grovsopor och lämna detta avfall till de insamlingssystem som finns.

Det avfallet från hushållet som inte lämnas till producenternas insamlingssystem ska lämnas till kommunens insamling. Man får alltså inte utan tillstånd själv ta hand som sina sopor, med undantag för trädgårdsavfall.

Hushållen har skyldighet att följa reglerna för avfallshanteringen i kommunen. Det gäller alla, oavsett om man bor i villa eller flerbostadshus.
